Advanced Snow Making Technology to Assure Opening Dates for 4th Annual “Back in Blue” and 8th Annual Snow Tubing Season
GATLINBURG, Tenn. (October 8, 2015)—Ober Gatlinburg Ski Area and Amusement park, a full-service year round facility located in the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee, offers Guests the unusual opportunity of Snow Tubing well before the Ski Area’s traditional opening date for the Slopes. Ober Gatlinburg’s investment in a patented snow making technology from SnowMagic (Upper Monclair, NJ), allows for rare predictability when referring to snow. The weekend before Thanksgiving will be the Fourth year that Skiers, Snowboarders and Spectators will travel from hours away to participate in the “Back in Blue” rail jam, with the first Snow Tubing session of the season the next morning.
This temperature-independent, snow crystal making system can run continuously in above-freezing temperatures, long before Guests enjoy the activities on the snow. This Fall, technicians relocated one of three Snow Magic units to the top of beginner trail, Cub Way, preparing for the best possible early season conditions. Ober Gatlinburg continues to reinvest in this technology, as well as adding four new, energy-saving air compressors to their traditional snowmaking system. “Not only will these new compressors increase our air power to give us much better snow, we can open more terrain faster when the temperatures cooperate,” said John Cossaboom, Winter Snowsports Director.
“Guest experience and safety are our top priorities. By adding these improvements, we can ensure Snow Tubing will remain open if we repeat last December’s mild temperatures,” President Bruce Anders added.
Ober Gatlinburg Ski Area and Amusement Park is Tennessee’s only Ski Area and continues to be a favored year-round destination. Ober’s 6th annual Oktoberfest is in full swing now through November 1st. Guests may enjoy multiple show times of The Bavarian Fun Makers Oompah Band every day, while indulging in authentic German cuisine in the Seasons of Ober Restaurant. Each weekend of Oktoberfest, Ober’s Bier Garten will feature different German Biers and Specialty Souvenir Items with fun and games for the entire family.
