OUR RACCOON FRIENDS

Wild Raccoons only live to be 2-4 years old. Ours will live to be 12-15 years of age.

Our Raccoons:

Casper- 4-year-old male Albino Northern Racoon.  Albino raccoons* occur frequently in the wild, but due to the lack of camouflage rarely survive to adulthood. He was born in the wild but was attacked by a dog when he was very young.  He received veterinary care and was under the care of a local wildlife rehabilitator but had sustained damages to his hip and left front leg.  Although his hip has healed, he has limited use of his left paw and was deemed non-releasable.

* “The odds of seeing an albino raccoon are about one in 750,000. For those familiar with the statistics, you have a better chance of being struck by lightning. Only about one in every 10,000 to 20,000 raccoons is born with an albino mutation, so these low odds are not that surprising.”

Eden (12 yrs old), Clyde (12 yrs ), Bonnie (4 yrs) and Stoney (5 yrs) are our standard colored Northern Raccoons.  They were all kept as pets and either donated or confiscated by state Wildlife officers. They could not be returned to the wild, so to avoid euthanasia, were placed with us.  The group gets along well together and play and groom each other.
